Transportation
The organizer will not provide transportation for competitors. Please take public transport to and from the competition area; get off at the Kam Tin / Pak Heung (country park stop) bus stop. It takes 15 minutes to walk from the bus stop to the event centre.

By taxi, estimated $60 for a single journey from the multi-storey car park at Tsuen Wan MTR station.
Event Centre
1. It takes 15 minutes to walk from Tsuen Wan Au (country park stop) Bus Stop to the event centre. All competitors must follow the prescribed route, otherwise will be disqualified.
2. The Event Centre is located at the TWISK Campsite (G.R.50QKK016807).
3. Toilets are available at the Event Centre.
4. First aid and physiotherapy service will be provided at the Event Centre.
5. Official time will be displayed at the Event Centre.
6. Please keep the Event Centre clean and take away all rubbish.
7. Please collect your number patch and electronic control card at the Event Centre. For those who have their own electronic control card, please remember to collect number patch.
8. You have to present your competitor number when collecting your number patch and electronic control card.
9. Pins and electronic control card backup labels are available at the Event Centre.
10. The organizer will provide no area for the storage of personal belongings. The organizer holds no responsibility for any loss of personal property.
Competitors Attire
1. Please do not bring along valuables
2. Please wear long-sleeves and light clothing; jeans are too thick.
3. Non-slip sport shoes are more suitable.
4. Only competitors equipped with a whistle, compass and number patch are allowed to start.
5. Please bring your own food and beverage.
Electronic Punching and Timing System (EPTS)
1. Please check all information on the borrowed electronic control card and inform the organizer immediately if an error occurs.
2. All competitors must use electronic control cards for the race. Competitors using their own cards should notify the organizer on the entry form.
3. Competitors are not allowed to use others’ electronic control cards.
4. Before start, competitors have to clear all previous records on the control cards at prescribed point.
5. Please write your competitor number on the backup label. Information on the label is important in case of failure of the electronic control card.
Start
1. The Start area is at the Event Centre.
2. Competitors should be at the start area 20 minutes before their designated start time.
3. Competitors must wear the number patch chest high and be equipped with compass and whistle.
4. Maps will be provided when you enter the Start area. You are not allowed to read the map before the start time; otherwise you will be disqualified.
5. Competitors should read the map and start running when the start signal is given.
6. Make sure you get the correct map and leave the Start area immediately. The organizer holds no responsibility for any disqualification due to having the wrong map.
7. Late starters must report to late start lane and can only start when allowed. Late starters will be timed as if they started at their scheduled time.
8. Once the start signal is given, leave the Start area immediately.
Competition Area And Map Information
1. Cattle tracks will not be shown on map.
2. Competition area is mainly covered with runnable forest. Broken branches will be found on ground. Some parts of the area are covered by dense vegetation and steep and stony ground. Please be careful and avoid twisting your ankle.
3. For safety sake, do not lie on the fallen trunks and dead plants for support. You are strongly advised to take full body protection against prickle and thorns by wearing long clothing and gaiters.
4. The ESE side of the competition area is full of prickly vegetation. Please be careful.
5. Some pits of 2m deep are found in the competition area. Please be careful.
6. The area is very popular with hikers during holidays. Please be careful of not bumping into the hikers
7. No water point will be provided in the area; please bring along your own if necessary.
8. Please do not frighten the wandering cattle in the area.
9. There is a restricted motorway on the NW side of the competition area. Beware of the traffic when running along the roadside.
Finish and Results
1. All competitors must report to the Finish point within 60 minutes after the start. This also applies to those who have not finished the race or have lost the control cards. All control points will be closed at 13:00 hours.
2. Please follow the restricted lane to reach the Finish. Put the electronic control card on the finish unit to register the finishing time and hand the backup label to the crew. Please do not wander in the Finish area.
3. Download the electronic control card data using the Result Processing Unit. Make sure the card and data are in good condition. Competitors are responsible for the loss or damage of the control card and data.
4. The Result Processing Unit is located at the Event Centre.
5. Competitors are required to download their results at the Result Processing Unit immediately and return the borrowed electronic control cards.
Scoring:
Score will be calculated according to the result submitted by clubs. Clubs are required to calculate the score of their 5 chosen teams. The score calculation is as follows:
Men’s class : Points gained x 1.0
Women’s class : Points gained x 1.25
The time limit is 60 minutes. 10 points will be deducted for each minute of overtime; time less than 1 minute will also be counted as 1 minute.
Club representatives are required to collect the scoring form from the organizer. Completed forms should be submitted by 15:00 hours and cannot be amended afterwards. The final result of the Mr. Birney Event will be based on the result submitted by member clubs.
1. All complaints on the event or result shall be made in writing to the organiser within 15 minutes after the final result has been announced. The organiser will record the appeal and its decision.
2. All protest made against the organiser‘s decision about complaints must be made in writing.
3. All appeal made against the organiser‘s decision about protest must be made in writing to the Technical Committee after the competition. But the decision of the organiser on result of competitors is final, appeal cannot be made to the Technical Committee
Highlight of The Competition Rules
1. The OAHK Competition by-laws shall apply.
2. Apart from the map and the mentioned equipment, no other equipment or aids can be used in the race.
3. E-card losing will be treated as contest in completion but will still have to report to the Finish.
4. Competitors are not allowed to interfere or remove any control points facilities.
5. Competitors will be charged for any damage done.
6. Competitors cannot camp in the competition area before the competition.
7. For safety control, all competitors must report to the Finish within 60 minutes after start.
8. The organizer will collect all lent-out control card at the Finish.
9. Please comply with organizer’s instructions.
10. Any competition rule amendments will be posted on the event date.
11. Failure to comply with the competition rules result in disqualification.
12. Please respect the rights of other competitors or hikers; competitors have no priority in using the roads.
Enquiry and Re-Issue
1. All competitors have to get their number patch at the Event Centre; those who borrow an E-card have to sign an agreement.
2. There is a charge of $5 for every re-issue of number patch.
3. For any re-issue, please proceed to the Event Centre.
4. In case competitors (those who use own e-cards) forget to take electronic control card, they need to pay $50 rental fee and $250 deposit, which will be refundable when card returned. (Spare cards are limited and will be served on a first-come-first-serve basis).
1. The organizer undertakes no responsibility for any loss or injury resulting from this event.
2. Please keep all areas clean. Do not pollute the water or country.
3. If any of the following: 1) Thunder Warning, 2) Typhoon #3 or above, 3) Red or Black Rainstorm Signal is in force at or before 6:00 hours on the event day, the event will be postponed until further notice.
4. If any of the following: 1) Thunderstorm Warning, 2) Typhoon #3 or above 3) Red or Black Rainstorm Signal is raised during the event, the competition will be suspended immediately. No make up competition will be held.
5. If an emergency happens during the competition, please stay on the spot and send out international SOS signal, and wait for assistance. (SOS signal: blowing whistle 6 times consecutively at 1 minute interval)
6. Due to recent dengue fever cases found in HK, use of mosquito repellent is recommended.
7. A penalty of $300 will be charged for any loss or damage of the borrowed electronic control card.
8. There is no prize-giving ceremony on the event day. All prizes will be given at the OAHK AGM in June 2006. Details will be announced.
