This event is organized for the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Queen’s College Orienteering Club.

Type: Cross Country
Map: 1:7,500, Colour Orienteering Map with 5 metres contour interval, updated 2006(Tai Mo Shan)/updated 2007(Rotary Park) International pictorial control description is used.
The distance between two magnetic north lines is 250m.

The organizer will not provide transportation for competitors. Please take public transport to and from the competition area; get off at the Tsuen Kam Au (country park stop) bus stop. It takes 7 minutes to walk from the bus stop to the event centre.

Event Centre
1. The Event Centre is located at the Tai Mo Shan Rotary Park Campsite (GR50Q KK020805). Please see the appended Map.
2. It takes about 7 minutes to walk from the Tsuen Kam Twist Bus Stop to the Event Centre. Competitors must follow the designated route (follow the signs) to get to the Event Centre,
or else you will be disqualified.
3. For drivers, please park your cars at the “Car Park” and follow the signs to the Event Centre. Other areas along the Tai Mo Shan Road are out of bounds. No parking is
allowed.
4. Toilets are available at the Event Centre.
5. Physiotherapy and first aid services will be available at the Event Centre.
6. Official time will be displayed at the Event Centre.
7. Please keep the Event Centre clean and take all rubbish away.
8. A limited amount of spare e-cards are available for rent at the Event Centre. Number bibs are also collected at the Event Centre.
9. You will need your competitor number for number bib collection. Please check your competitor number at the OAHK homepage, it would also be posted at the Event Centre.
10. Safety pins, e-card back-up labels are available at the Event Centre.
11. There will be a spectator control in the event centre. All runners will have to make their way through it. Do cheer at them!
12. There will be some exhibits about the history and current development of our club.
13. Please come and try our game stalls during 1200-1430!
14. No storage services will be provided. Competitors are advised not to bring valuable belongings.
Starting Procedure
.
1. The start area is located 300m away from event centre with 25m climb. It takes about 10 min to get there. Please follow the signs. For safety reasons, one side of the Tai Mo Shan Road near event centre will be taped. (see illustration) Please use that side on your way to start and during race.
2. Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your start time.
3. A “2-minute zone” system will be used at Start. The time shown at Start is Official Time. Competitors’ number will not be announced 2 minutes before his/her start time. Please enter the first box of the “2-minute zone”.
4. Please put on number cloth in front of chest and have compass, whistle and electronic control card ready. Competitors without any of above item are not allowed to start.
5. Enter the last box 1 minute before start. Please check if the information on map, such as class entered, is correct. Competitors taking wrong maps will be disqualified. Place the electronic control card on “start unit” for at least 6 seconds to ensure that past data is cleared.
6. Competitors may start and take map only after hearing the last beep. Competitors are not allowed to stay along the aisle between the start and the start triangle.
7. Latecomers must report to the officials at Start. They will be arranged to start at the late starting line. The time lost will not be compensated.
8. There will be another spectator control near start. Runners of courses A and B will via here. Cheer at them once more!
Finishing Procedure and Result Processing
1. Competitors must report to finish within 150 minutes after they have started, no matter how far they have completed the courses or electronic control card is lost.
2. At finish, “punch” the electronic control card at the “finish unit”, that time will be recorded as finish time. Please hand in the back up label to the Finish Officials
3. There is no buffer zone at Finish line.
4. Maps will not be collected at Finish. Runners who show their maps to those have not taken their start will be disqualified.
5. Competitors are advised to process results at their earliest convenience. Competitors bear their own responsibility if there is any damage or data lost during the journey.
6. It takes about 2 minutes walk from the Finish to the Event Centre.
7. Every competitor has to download the result at result processing counter. Any competitors who forget to download result before the event closing time will be disqualified (DISQ).
Electronic Punching and Timing System (EPTS)
1. Please refer to the corresponding pages in OAHK’s website for the information about EPTS
2. Competitors should take their own control card. Number cloth, safety pins and backup label should be collected at the Event Centre. In case competitors forget to take electronic
control card, they need to pay $50 rental fee and $250 deposit, which will be refundable when card returned. (Spare cards are limited and will be served on a first-come-first-serve basis). Ensure the electronic card number corresponds to the number shown on Start List. Otherwise, please contact OAHK as soon as possible for correction.
3. If competitors use others’ electronic card or participate the event on behalf of others, both parties will be disqualified in all events in the season
4. Competitors should write down their competitors’ numbers in the front of their backup labels before start. If the organizer has doubt on a particular punch record of an e-card,
records of the backup label will be considered as a valid counter-check tool.
1. All complaints on the event or result shall be made in writing to the organiser within 15 minutes after the final result has been announced. The organiser will record the appeal and its decision.
2. All protest made against the organiser‘s decision about complaints must be made in writing within 15 minutes.
Rules
1. The “Orienteering Competition By-law” of the OAHK will be applied to this competition.
2. No other aids allowed except equipment aforementioned.
3. Loss of e-card will be considered as DID NOT FINISH (DNF), but competitors shall report to Finish.
4. Competitor who move or damage any facilities will be disqualified.
5. The organiser has the right to amend any competition rules without priornotice to competitors. The amendment, if any, will be displayed at Event Centre.
6. Competitors may not camp or stay overnight in the competition area beforehand or otherwise disqualified.
7. For safety, please report to Finish or Event Centre within 150 minutes after your start.
1. The north-east of the area are mainly rough open. The south-west part is covered by forests with good to middle runnability.
2. Some indistinct paths possibly made by cows are not mapped, and please do not irritate the cows and wild dogs.
3. Power lines and poles are not mapped.
4. There are lots of un-mapped stone walls in the northern part of the map.
5. Be careful of the stony terrain in the north. Due to the vast amount of rocks on the terrain, some rocks (which might be taller than 1m) are omitted from the map for simplification.
6. Man-made gullies are not mapped. They usually appear on top of <walls>, some of them are well-hidden. Please be careful when crossing.
7. Paved forests (white) are marked by distinct vegetation boundaries.
8. The area is very popular with hikers during Holidays. Be careful when running along the hiking paths and do not bump into the hikers.
9. Water point will be available and its location is shown on map. But you are strongly advised to carry with you drinking water during competition as there is only limited water supply.
10. If you happen to get lost, run towards the highway or Tai Mo Shan Road, it will lead you back to the Event Centre.
1. There are no designated crossing points for roads. Please look out for vehicles.
2. For safety reasons, one side of Tai Mo Shan Road near the event centre will be taped. (see illustration) please use that side on your way to start or during race.
3. Some of the roads are marked as out of bounds on the Map(with purple crosses). Competitors should not cross or run along the road in those sections, or else you will be disqualified.
4. All courses will have to pass the finish area. Runners should follow the taped route for about 125m from the previous control before making their way for the next one.
5. Competitors may have to run along steep slopes and dense forests, please take care.
6. There will be TWO butterfly loops in courses C and D. Make sure you have punched the controls in correct sequence.
7. There may be a lot of control points in a very small area. Please remember to check the sequence and control code when punching. Moreover, since there are a lot of controls for each course, you may not get a valid result if you mis-punch too many controls (each e-card can only store 50 control records) so check carefully before you punch.

Remarks
1. If there are any changes of this event information, announcement will be made by organizer on the competition day.
2. There will be a big lucky draw after the presentation of certificates. The prizes include compass and OL-pants. Please keep your number bib after the race for checking.
3. All competitors shall ensure their own safety and belongings. The organizers will not bear any responsibilities.
4. Please take care of the passing vehicles.
5. The organizer does not provide a cloakroom and will not be responsible for loss of belongings. Consequently, competitors are advised not to bring valuables.
6. In case of emergency, stay at a safe place and make an international SOS signal by blowing your whistle 6 successive times. Repeat it after a minute.
7. If the Honk Kong Observatory issues the thunderstorm signal, a rainstorm red/black warning or the No.3 (or above) tropical cyclone warning signal by 0600 on the competition day, then this event will be cancelled. No make-up event will be re-arranged and competition fee will not be refunded.
8. The weather may be hot on the competition day. If necessary, please bring sufficient drinks and sun-blocking tools.
