Event Centre

1.       The Event Centre is located at Mount Parker Road Barbecue Site No. 1 in Tai Tam Country Park (Quarry Bay Extension) (G.R. 50QKK125662).

2.       Toilet and rubbish bin are provided at the Event Centre.

3.       Competitors should collect their number cloth & safety pins at the Event Centre.

4.       Physiotherapy and First Aid service will be provided at the Event Centre.

5.       Official time will be displayed at the Event Centre.

6.       Please keep the Event Centre clean and take all rubbish away.

7.       Competitors should take care of their own belongings on the day of event. Competitors are advised not to bring valuables.

8.       No food or drinking water supply near in the event centre.

 

Transport

1.       No transportation will be provided.

2.       From Mount Parker Road to Event Centre is impassability road

3.       Competitors can take public bus or mini-bus and get off near the junction of King’s Road & Mount Parker Road.Competitors can walk from King’s Road, Quarry Bay to Mount Parker Road. It needs 30 to 40 minutes walk to the Event Centre, distance 1.5k and climb 125m.

4.       Competitors can also take MTR and get off at Quarry Bay Station A . It needs 45 to 60 minutes walk to the Event Centre, distance 1.8k and climb 125m. See the map :

Starting Procedure

1.       The start area will be located 500m away from along yellow color tape walking event centre with climbing of 40m. It takes about 5 min to get there.

2.       From Per-start area follow tap to start area.

3.       There are warm-up aeera to set before the start aera.

4.       The Start is located beside the road with vehicle passes by. Competitors please pay attention.

5.       Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your start time.

6.       A “2-minute zone” system will be used at Start. The time shown at Start is Entry Time. Please enter the first box of the “2-minute zone”.

7.       Please put on number cloth in front of chest and have compass, whistle and electronic control card ready.  Competitors without any of above item are not allowed to start.

8.       IOF description will be available at the “2-minute zone”. Please bring along your description holder. Tapes and cutters will be provided.

9.       Enter the last box 1 minute before start. Place the electronic control card on “start unit” at the same time.

10.   Competitors may start and take map only after hearing the last beep.  Competitors are not allowed to stay along the aisle between the start and the start triangle.

11.   There may have 10 lanes start at the same time in a minute. Competitors are not allowed to stay along the aisle of the start area.

12.   Please check if the information on map is correct. Competitors taking wrong maps will be disqualified. 

13.   Latecomers must report to the officials at Start.  They will be arranged to start at the late starting line. The time lost will not be compensated.

 

Finishing Procedure and Result Processing

1.       Competitors must report to finish within 150 minutes after you start or before the close of controls, no matter how far they have completed the courses or electronic control card is lost.

2.       At finish, “punch” the electronic control card at the “finish unit”, that time will be recorded as finish time.

3.       Please hand in the back up label to the Finish Officials.

4.       Maps will not be collected at Finish. However, finishers should not disclose the map to competitors waiting for start.

5.       Leave for Event Centre in order to avoid congestion at Finish.  Competitors are advised to process results at their earliest convenience.  Competitors bear their own responsibility if there is any damage or data lost during the journey.

6.       Finish and Result processing counter is located at Event Centre.

7.       Every competitor has to download the result at result processing counter. Any competitors who forget to download result before the event closing time will be regarded as disqualified (DISQ).

 

Complaints and Protests

1.       All complaints on the event or result shall be made in writing to the organiser within 15 minutes after the final result has been announced.  The organiser will record the appeal and its decision.

2.       All protest made against the organiser‘s decision about complaints must be made in writing. 

3.       All appeal made against the organiser‘s decision about protest must be made in writing to the Technical Committee after the competition.   But the decision of the organiser on result of competitors is final.

 

Electronic Punching and Timing System (EPTS)

1.       Please refer to the attached information regarding EPTS for details.

2.       Competitors should take their own control card. Number cloth, safety pins and backup label should be collected at the Event Centre.  In case competitors forget to take electronic control card, they need to pay $50 rental fee and $250 deposit, which will be refundable when card returned.  (Spare cards are limited and will be served on a first-come-first-serve basis).  Ensure the electronic card number corresponds to the number shown on Start List.  Otherwise, please contact OAHK as soon as possible for correction.

3.       Competitors using others’ electronic card or participate the event on behalf of others will be disqualified.

4.       Competitors should write down their competitors’ numbers in the front of their backup labels before start. If the organizer has doubt on a particular punch record of an e-card, records of the backup label will be considered as a valid counter-check tool.

 

Rules

1.       The “Orienteering Competition By-law” of the OAHK will be applied to this competition.

2.       No other aids allowed except equipment aforementioned.

3.       Loss of e-card will be considered as DID NOT FINISH (DNF), but competitors shall report to Finish.

4.       Competitor who move or damage any facilities will be disqualified.

5.       The organiser has the right to amend any competition rules without prior notice to competitors.  The amendment, if any, will be displayed at Event Centre.

6.       Competitors may not camp or stay overnight in the competition area beforehand or otherwise disqualified.

7.       For safety, please report to Finish or Event Centre within 150 minutes after your start.

 

Information about the competition area

1. There are lots of radio transmitters on the terrain. The black circles on the map represent these radio transmitters. Please see the attached picture for reference.

2. Most of the competition area is covered with scrubs and rough open land which is difficult to walk. Some of the hilltops, ridges/spurs and re-entrants are covered with forests and rough open land which are more easier to get through

3. Some areas are covered with debris and loosen soil and parts of the stream are covered by wet and slippery rock face. Please be careful.

4. Except at the south-eastern side, the competition area is covered with path network. There are many indistinct paths and path junctions which are not shown on the map. Paths as shown on the map are cement, sandy or open grassland covers.

5. All buildings shown on the map are in square shape. Some of the buildings shown are structures with only side or even without any wall, but they have roof tops. Others include cement columns.

6. Vegetation on the terrain is thicker than that shown on the map.

7. There will be two water points. Please do not drink stream water in the competition area.

8. Orienteering shoes or good non-slippery sports shoes are recommended.

9. There are several “No Access” signs in the competition area. These signs are not set up by the organizer and competitors are responsible for their own safety when entering these areas.

10.   Iron bars protruding several centimetres above the ground have been spotted along a path in the competition area. Please be cautious.

Remarks

1.       All competitors are entering this competition at their own risk. The organiser undertakes no liabilities to any personal injuries or loss of properties during and as a consequence to the competition.

2.       Observe the Country Code. Keep the area clean.

3.       Beware of the vehicle during the competition or walk to the Event Centre.

4.       If the Honk Kong Observatory issues the thunderstorm signal, a rainstorm red/black warning or the No.3 (or above) tropical cyclone warning signal by 0600 on the competition day, then this event will be postponed.  All competitors will be informed of the new date for this event.

5.       In case of injury or under emergency situations, please use your whistle. The distress signal is 6 beeps repeated every minute.  Keep calm and wait for the help of event officials.
