Type: Cross-country
Map: 1:10 000/1:2 500 with 5 m/2.5m contour interval. IOF control description will be used.
Prizes: 1. Medals will be awarded to the best 3 places in each class
2. The best 3 secondary schools in each class will be awarded
3. The best 3 overall Boys’ and Girls’ schools will be awarded
(Secondary schools with 10 starters are eligible as group players, except CATI, and those competitors who had gained prizes in open event previously were not eligible to get prize in CATI)
Group prizes will not be given on the day of event, the details of the prize presentation ceremony will be notified later.

1. The organiser will not arrange transport for you. You have to arrange your own.
2. You may take either one of the following buses to the bus stop near the Pak Tam Au (near Pak Tam Au Village)
a) 96R Choi Hung to Wong Shek Pier
First bus departs at 0730; frequency 15 min; fare $15.6 time required: about 1 hour
b) 94 Sai Kung to Wong Shek Pier
First bus departs at 0700; frequency 30 min; fare $5.5 time required: about 30 mins
c) If you want to get information on bus routes to the event centre, you may call the KMB at 2745 4466 or browse its web site at www.kmb.com.hk.
As frequency of the aforementioned bus routes are quite low, please ensure you have enough spare time.
1. The event centre is situated at a open area near Pak Tam Au village (KV 251819)
2. There is toilet nearby.
3. Physiotherapy and first-aid services will be available.
4. Please keep the country park clean and take all rubbish away.
5. The time shown in the event centre is official time.
6. The organiser will not provide a luggage area and will not be responsible for loss of properties. You have to take care of your belongings, and therefore you are advised not to take valuables to the event centre.
7. Fire is prohibited in the event centre.
8. Counters distributing E-cards and number cloths will be set up. Participants are required to pick up their E-card(and back-up label), number cloth and fill in an E-card borrowing form plus your Chinese name(if any)(for live commentary purpose)
1. Due to thick vegetation, some paths are quite indistinct. For safety reasons, runners who do not wear trousers are not allowed to take their start.
2. Vegetation hides some entrances of caves. Beware of them.
3. The area is found to have lots of bee and vaspe wombs. Beware of them.
4. There are many weekend hikers. Beware not to clash with them.
5. Water point will be available and its location is shown on the map. But you are strongly advised to carry with you drinking water during competition as there is only limited water supply.
6. There is a highway in the west of the competition area, do not use it or you risk disqualification.

There is a map change for classes MA,MB,WA and WB at the spectator control. The scale and contour interval for the second map is 1:2500 and 2.5m respectively. Competitors please place their first map in the collection box before taking the second map. The used maps collected will be distributed after the race. Due to a pack of the controls, some controls after map change will have an interval less than 30m, competitors please pay attention to the control code upon punching.
The final course length and climb are subject to change by the organizer. The amended course length and climb will be displayed at the Event Centre on the day of event
Electronic punching system and e-card
1. All courses shall use the EMIT punching and timing system (enclosed in this event information, please read carefully).
2. Competitors should take the number cloth by themselves (safety pins available at the Event Centre).
3. Competitors who use e-card provided by the organiser have to report to the Event Centre for collection of Number cloth and E-card set by completing the borrow form. Please note that competitors must reimburse HK$300 .00 to OAHK for Lost or Damage of e-cards.
4. Competitors must check and ensure the e-cards and all details are correct, and inform the Event centre immediately for correction.
5. Exchange of e-cards with other competitors is not allowed.
6. Competitors must write his/her competition number at the front of the back-up tag.
Example 1: If the 4th control is punched when the participant is heading for the 3rd one, he has to go back to the 3rd control and punch the rest of the control in order.

Example 2: If an unknown control X is punched, just ignore it and continue.

Start and Starting Procedures
1. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the event centre to the start area (distance about 300m, climb 30m).
2. Please arrive at the start area 5 minutes before your start time. Event officials will check competitors’ whistle, compass, number cloth (pinned on the front of the chest) and e-card before competitors enter the start area. Only competitors with all equipment are allowed to start.
3. Official time will be displayed at the Start. Competitor must enter the first box of the “2-minute zone” two minutes before his/her START time.
4. Event officials will record competitors’ number before competitors enter the START. Please follow event officials’ instructions to enter the right box.
5. When reaching the last box, competitors must place his/her e-card on the “control point of start” for at least 6 seconds before start and upon hearing the last beep, competitors can start.
6. After hearing the beep sound, competitors may read the map. Please don’t stay in the area from the start area to the start marker.
7. All competitors are responsible for checking if information on their map is correct. Competitor will be disqualified if he/she takes the wrong map.
8. Latecomers must report to the officials at the start. They will be arranged to start at the late start line. The time lost will not be compensated.
Finish and Finishing Procedures
1. The Finish is located at the event centre.
2. Finishing time is the time when the competitor crosses the finish line and places his e-card on the finish control point. (CATI team must cross the finish line together)
3. After crossing the finish line, competitors must pass his/her back-up tag to the event officials.
4. Maps will not be collected at the finish area. Competitors must not disclose the map information to others who have not yet started or they will be disqualified.
5. Competitors must report to result point (located next to the finish) and download the e-card data as soon as possible. It is the competitors’ responsibility to safe-keep their personal e-cards.
6. All competitors must report to the Finish within 150 minutes after start or before the close of all controls, whether or not they have completed the course or have lost control e-cards.
7. Every competitor has to download the result at result processing counter. Any competitors who forget to download result before the event closing time will be regarded as disqualified (DISQ).
Announcement of final results
1. Final results will be announced in the Event Centre.
2. Final results will be announced at 1345.
Appeals
1. All complaints about the event or results must be made to the organiser in writing within 15 minutes after the announcement of final results. The organiser will record complaints and decisions made. The Event Controller will handle protests according to the Competition By-laws.
2. All protests about the organiser‘s decisions must be made to the Organiser or Jury in writing in 30 minutes.
3. For all complaints regarding organizations’ results, please send a representative. Individuals’ complaints will not be accepted.
Rules
1. The Technical Standards and Competition By-laws for Open Orienteering Event of the OAHK shall apply to this competition.
2. No other maps or aids other than those provided or mentioned by the organiser (including mobile phones) may be used.
3. Lost of e-card will be treated as DNF and report to the Finish is required.
4. Competitors who remove/destroy any properties of the organizer will be disqualified. The organizer will claim compensation from them.
5. The organiser reserves the right to add or amend the rules. All amendments, if any, will be displayed at the event centre on the day of competition.
6. For the sake of safety, all competitors must report to the Finish within 150 minutes after start or before the close of all controls.
7. Substituting is prohibited. Results of both parties in OAHK events for the whole season would be cancelled in such case.
Remarks
1. All participants should take care of their personal belongings, event organizer is not responsible for any lost of property.
2. Participants should follow the rules of country parks, keep the place clean; do not pollute water and the country park
3. During the competition, if either 1) Thunderstorm warning 2)Typhoon Signal number 3 or above 3)Red or Black rainstorm warning signal is hoisted, the competition will be terminated immediately.
4. If Typhoon Signal No. 3 or above is hoisted, or the Thunderstorm/ any Rainstorm Warning is announced by the HK Observatory at 0600 hours on the day of competition, the competition will be cancelled. The event may be rescheduled, please refer to OAHK’s website: www.oahk.org.hk
5. Do not chat with other participants during the event, or participants will be disqualified.
6. If you face any emergency, stay at where you are and use the international signal to seek for help (blow your whistle 6 times and repeat after one minute)
7. Apply anti-mosquitoes devices
8. Do not drink water from the hill.
9. As the event centre is near to settlements, please do not disturb the villagers.
10. Try to relocate yourself by going back to your previous control or at any control if you have get lost during the race.
11. Group prizes will not be given on the day of event, the details of the prize presentation ceremony will be notified later.
12. The top 20th of each group will be promoted to YOC elite group held on 23-12-2007.
13. Live DJ service will be provided in the arena. The message slips are available at the spectating area as well as participants’ area.

Safety Guidelines
1. Hill fire advances rapidly upward and windward on a steep grass slope in dry weather. Never underestimate its devastating power.
2. Listen to the weather bulletin. If the fire danger warning is red, handle kindling materials with great care. Except at designated barbecue sites or campsites, never light a fire within country parks. Smokers must refrain from smoking in Event Centre & competition area.
3. Hill fire is difficult to detect in daytime. Always pay attention to flying ashes or burnt smell. If a hill fire is spotted, leave the fire scene right away.
4. It is difficult to assess the spreading of hillfire. Don't risk continuing your competition in case of a fire nearby or you may get trapped in the fire. Go back to the Event Centre immediately!
Emergency Measures
1. Don't panic and keep calm.
2. Note the following for a quick evacuation from the scene of fire:
a. The direction in which the fire spreads - avoid escaping in the same direction of the prevailing wind.
b. The gradient of the paths nearby - choose the one which is easiest for escape.
c. The height and density of the vegetation nearby - find a place with less vegetation (Dark Yellow on the map) for escape.
3. It is easier and quicker to escape through existing paths.
4. If the fire is imminent and there is no way out, you should cover your exposed skin with wet clothing and then make for the burnt area. This can minimize the chance of getting injured. Never run uphill if the situation permits.
5. Don't run into shrubs or grassgrown area (White & Green on the map), fire usually spreads rapidly and the temperature may soar in these areas.
